Materials:
1/2 cup lavender flowers, 1 cup rose petals,
1/2 cup rosebuds and hips, 1/2 cup lemon peel,
1/4 cup cut orris root, 10 drops of essential
oil of lavender, 10 drops of essential oil
of damask rose, 5 drops of essential oil of
sandalwood, 10 drops of essential oil of neroli,
glass bowl with lid, stirrer, muslin or silk
potpourri drawstring pillow.
Step 1. Place the lavender flowers,
rose petals, buds and hips and lemon peel
in the glass jar. Mix well.
Step 2. Place the orris root in a pile
on top of the dry mix.
Step 3. Carefully pour the essential
oils on to the orris root. If some gets onto
the dry flower mix, it's fine, but try to
get most of the oils on the fixative.
Step 4. Cover jar with lid and leave
to "rest" in a cool dark place for
2-3 days.
Step 5. Open the jar, stir gently, and
leave to rest again for 2-3 days. Repeat this
process 6-8 times till the aroma is blended
and true, with no edges.
Step 6. Transfer the potpourri to the
potpourri bag and place near your pillow.
Alternatively, place the potpourri in a decorative
glass jar with lid by your bedside. Each night,
take off the lid about an hour before bed,
and enjoy the soothing aroma as you drift
off to sleep. Replace the lid the next morning.
Note: Make a fresh batch of potpourri
every 8-12 weeks.
